Project goals
Sydney Trains' Major Works Division is responsible for delivering renewals, maintenance upgrades, and select capital works across the Greater Sydney Rail Network under the Annual Works Program (AWP). To meet these needs, Sydney Trains seeks to prequalify contractors across 17 sub-panels in five engineering disciplines. Below is a brief summary of the required work for each discipline.Track contractors will handle repairs and maintenance of railway turnouts, including rail inspection, replacement, alignment, ballast cleaning, and thermite welding. They will also maintain railway bridges by replacing rails, sleepers, and transoms, ensuring safety and structural integrity, using heavy machinery as necessary.Civil contractors will manage protective coatings, structural repairs on steel and concrete bridges, drainage systems, earthworks, landscaping, and platform construction, ensuring compliance with safety standards. They may also support Track, Electrical, and Signalling projects.Geotechnical contractors will focus on vegetation clearing, rock removal, and slope stabilization using rockfall protection and shotcreting techniques to ensure infrastructure stability and safety.Signalling contractors will maintain and upgrade signalling systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of trains.Electrical contractors will handle high-voltage systems, overhead wire renewal, and provide electrical support for various projects.
